The 12th Century Werngochlyn - only three miles from Abergavenny, is a small farm set in the middle of rolling farmland with the Skirrid Mountain as a stunning backdrop.

Only half an hour from the Severn Bridge, four fully-equipped self-catering cottages sleeping 4-6, (Extras can be accommodated on camp-beds or in the Farmhouse.)  All cottages are set around the farmyard and all have been tastefully converted from old stone farm buildings with stone walls and revealed beams, centrally-heated - cosy enough for a winter break (two of our cottages have wood burning stoves), or to return to on a rainy summer’s evening.  Dogs welcome!

There is a heated indoor swimming pool for guests use (closed briefly over the winter months) with a hot tub available all year round, a games room, plenty of room to sit out and have a barbeque, with ample parking.  We can provide portable bbq’s and there’s a children’s play area with a slide and a swing. A stream runs through the farmyard and there are friendly farm animals to get to know - It’s paradise for children (of all ages…)!

We also run a Livery Yard, so there are lots of horses and ponies around to see. An 18 hole Golf Course and Driving Range is only ½ mile away.

Granary Cottage

This is the largest of our four cottages with its own enclosed garden – and is set, on its own, on the main farmyard, with plenty of room to park cars. It has its own lawn to the side which may be accessed from French doors leading from the sitting room.

Stable Cottage

You may park your car right outside, and there is a step up to the cottage front door with a bench seat next to it to contemplate your day.

Dairy Cottage

A run of stone steps leads up to the front door of Dairy Cottage, opening into a hallway. The cottage is situated off a drive which runs alongside the large, communal lawn area backed by a paddock, which houses our small flock of free-range chickens.

Cowshed Cottage

Cowshed Cottage is the smallest of our four cottages. Situated between Dairy and Stable Cottages.

Accommodation

At Werngochlyn Farm we have four self-catering cottages, available all year round, which are set around our farmyard.

They have been tastefully converted and sympathetically restored from old stone farm buildings and yet retain all the charm and character of the original buildings – with stone walls and revealed beams. They all have central heating and are cosy enough for a winter break, or to return to on a rainy summer evening. There is an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, games room with pool and table tennis, and room to barbeque or sit out. There is ample parking outside each cottage. (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SWIMMING POOL IS CLOSED FROM NOVEMBER to JUST BEFORE EASTER).

There are plenty of friendly animals waiting to meet you and your family at werngochlyn, And WE HAVE TO CHECK THE BOOTS OF CARS TO MAKE SURE NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN SPIRITED AWAY AT THE END OF THE TRIP!

More Information.

One of the many beautiful Monmouthshire farmhouses, Werngochlyn dates back to the 12th century. It now is a small working farm set in the middle of rolling farmland with the Skirrid Mountain as a stunning backdrop - and yet only three miles from the busy market town of Abergavenny with its shops, castle, museum, cinema, theatre, wine auctions, annual Shire Horse Show and Steam Rally and Cycle Race and Food Festival of course! (Pretty much something for everyone).

We are ideally placed as a base to explore the beautiful Usk and Wye Valleys, the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, and there is a wealth of historic buildings and places of interest to visit nearby including Blaenavon which is a World Heritage Site and Hay on Wye – Town of Books, with it’s world famous Literary Festival for 2 weeks at the end of May, over the Bank Holiday.

It is an area renowned for its spectacular beauty and is a great place to come for walking, climbing, pot-holing, hanggliding, fishing, pony-trekking and many more active outdoor pursuits (such as gorge walking or quad-biking) – or perhaps just for relaxing on a boat along the Monmouthshire/Brecon canal. Many people bring their bikes as cycling is increasingly popular in the area.

For those of you who like to eat out and enjoy good food, there are plenty of really good restaurants and pubs locally. Certainly, you could visit a different one every night of the week! And, of course, the Michelin starred “Walnut Tree” is within walking distance – across the fields from the Farm. Abergavenny is home to the Food Festival which is held in September and is rapidly becoming one of “The” weekends of the year!

There is a golf course with driving-range ½ mile away (within walking distance) - with many other demanding courses within 30 minutes drive – including the home of the 2010 Ryder Cup, the Celtic Manor, and the Usk river, is one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the country.

Come for a two week holiday and you will still not see it all!
